How important is it to do laundry while you are a medical student? Apparently, it’s very important. Hygiene and stuff you know. We understand it’s annoying but it’s a necessary evil. Okay, let’s cut to the chase.
Common Laundry Tips
- Make sure you use the appropriate settings as per machine you use.
- Keep an eye out for the timer and remove your clothes as soon as your laundry is done from washing machines and dryers.
- It’s common courtesy to remove the lint after you are done.
- Don’t wash carpets in the machine.
- Don’t leave your bags around in the laundry room.
1. Buy your tokens.
Karolek is a heaven to live in but laundry can be quite expensive compared to the other dorms (free vs 5pln per wash load). Yeah, you have to pay to do your laundry at Karolek because the machines are from a laundry company outside the University. You can buy tokens from the security guard on the ground floor. They will take down your room number and give you the amount of tokens you need. The tokens are added to your invoice on VISUS. So you just have to pay it all with all the other fees you have to pay for.
2. Find the Machines.
Take the elevator to -1
Follow the signs that says Pralnia (laundry). The Orange doors that say ‘bedding storage’ will lead you. Just a small warning; the Orange door is a bit hard to open so muster all your energy and give it a good yank. It’s not locked, though it might give you the impression of a locked door. It’s a test to check your strength to go through the rest of medical school and you have to pass it every time you have to get your laundry done at Karolek.
Walk straight in the corridor and turn to the first left. Walk straight again towards the end of the corridor and you will see a room named 1.13 Pralnia.
3. Washing.
Put in your wash load, detergent, softener and then insert your token to the slot on the machine. Adjust necessary settings and press the start button. If you need help with this, just drop a post on the PUMS Dormitories group on facebook.
4. Drying.
After your laundry is done there are electric dryers available in the same room. Just be careful that you don’t put the wrong fabric of clothing into the dryers or your cloths can shrink.
5. Cleaning up.
After you’re done, make sure you throw out the water collected in the machine before you dry your clothes.
5. Air Drying.
If you prefer to air dry your clothes you can book a room and dry your clothes the natural way. You can get a key from the security but please make sure you return the key after you are done.
