NBME Examinations

As part of the integrated medical curriculum, students complete standardized examinations developed by the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME). These assessments are administered throughout both the Basic and Clinical Sciences courses, ensuring a continuous and internationally standardized evaluation of student progress from the preclinical to the clinical years.

Beyond preparing students for the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE), and other national licensing evaluations, the NBME examinations at PUMS serve as a reliable, objective, and globally benchmarked measure of learning outcomes. Each student receives a detailed performance report, including individualized feedback across content areas, comparison to international norms, and personalized recommendations for further academic development.

To honor outstanding academic achievement, PUMS annually presents the NBME Excellence Awards to top-performing students in each academic year, including subject-specific honors and distinctions for the highest combined averages. Additionally, students who achieve exceptional results in the NBME Comprehensive Basic Science (CBS) examination are recognized through the Top CBS Performers Awards.

Aligned with the evolving global standards in medical education, PUMS also acknowledges the introduction of the UK Medical Licensing Assessment (UKMLA) by the General Medical Council (GMC), implemented for all UK medical graduates starting from the 2024–2025 academic year. The NBME-based assessment framework at PUMS provides students with valuable preparation for the USMLE, MCCQE, UKMLA, and other national medical licensing examinations, reinforcing the university’s commitment to international academic excellence and licensure readiness.
