Graduation – Class of 2025

On June 2, 2025, a graduation ceremony was held in the Adam Mickiewicz University Auditorium Hall  for this year’s graduates of the English-language programs. This year, 62 graduates from 14 countries received their long-awaited diplomas, earning the titles of Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Dental Surgery. The most represented national groups in this cohort were from Taiwan, Norway, Canada, and India.

The ceremony was hosted by Prof. Dorota Zozulińska-Ziółkiewicz, Vice-Rector for Teaching, with assistance from students and alumni serving as masters of ceremonies: Dr. Olesya Marushko, Dr. Chen Ting-Wei, as well as Phanthila Wuttithaweewat and Bhavana Pagidela. The event was also attended by other representatives of the University authorities, the Senate, faculty leadership, and authorities of the Center for English-Language Education. Honorary guests included Prof. Paweł Pomianowski – a 1998 graduate of the English-language medical program, now Director of the Division of Adult Medical Genetics and Genomics at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in the United States, as well as Dr. Mateusz Sulca – Vice-President of the Greater Poland Chamber of Physicians and Dentists.

Family members and friends of the graduates, along with members of our academic community, listened to speeches by Vice-Rector Prof. Zozulińska-Ziółkiewicz, by Dr. Aleksandra Uruska – Director of the Center for English-Language Education, and by the invited alumnus, Prof. Pomianowski. Also delivering remarks was Moeez Tahir – President of the English Programs’ Student Union and a member of the University Council of the Student Government RUSS.

Representing this year’s graduates were valedictorians: Dr. Olena Marushko and Dr. Nadja Nitz. Graduates also honored faculty members who earned their highest recognition: Dr. Marek Dorożyński, Dr. Przemysław Gajdus, Dr. Krzysztof Gawriołek, Dr. Małgorzata Ronij, Dr. Jan Brylak, Dr. Izabela Chudzicka-Strugała, Dr. Marek Dąbrowski, and Prof. Nadia Sawicka-Gutaj.

The artistic part of the event featured performances by this year’s graduate Dr. Chen Ming-Haw, who performed Today My Life Begins by Bruno Mars (guitar and vocals), and current student Obinna Nzewi, who played Time by Hans Zimmer from the Inception soundtrack on the piano.

Before the diplomas were presented and the Hippocratic Oath taken, outstanding graduates were awarded medals for academic excellence and community contributions, as well as awards for exceptional achievements in academics, sports, and community engagement. The Director of the Center also expressed gratitude to selected members of the University administration and recognized faculty members retiring from teaching in the English programs: Professors Andrzej Bręborowicz, Elżbieta Kaczmarek, Leszek Kubisz, and Dr. Marek Stajgis.

The ceremony was broadcast live on the PUMS’ English-language YouTube channel, where it was joined by nearly 800 viewers from 11 different countries. A video highlight of the ceremony is available at: https://youtu.be/92prMAbn76Y.

After the ceremony, graduates and their families gathered for a reception in the Hall foyer, where they could take commemorative photos at a professional photography station and purchase university-branded souvenirs and clothing at the merch stand.
