How do we run things?
It was on here, where’d it go?
Why join ESRA?
ESRA is run by students to help students. We can help get you connected with doctors, getting students together who are interested in researching similar directions like Cardiology or Gynecology.
Journal Club? A little blurb about what we do and what we’ve done
ESRA was founded in 2015 as Journal Club by Nicholas Werczak (2019) and Emily Surzyn (2020). Its aim is to introduce students from the English Program to clinical research opportunities in various fields, with the primary goal being a chance for students to publish their work. Members have had the opportunity to participate in conferences and events such as Beyond Science International Remote Conference, the International Congress for Young Medical Scientists held annually at PUMS, Department Workshops and Journal Analysis Workshops.
ESRA currently consists of around 20 subgroups involved in projects from departments ranging from dermatology to vascular surgery. To exemplify some achievements, in April of this year saw Alexandra Kowalczyk and Camille Sirotnikov from the pediatric research group present their research at the 8th International Students’ Conference of Young Medical Researchers in Wrocław on their topic – “Yersiniosis in the Pediatric Population”. Also earlier this year, Tong Limphaibool and Marte Holstad published their paper titled “Endovascular Management of Pancreatitis-related Pseudoaneurysms: A Review of Techniques”. The list of publications and achievements made by our members continues to grow by the year and are listed in the Publications section of our website.
In addition to research, ESRA informs students about workshops held in each department and plays a dynamic role in informing and encouraging its members about upcoming conferences and congresses open to students. This includes the workshops hosted by STN during the 17th International Congress for Young Medics and more recently the Comprehensive ECG workshop for young doctors and medical students being held in November 2017. Last year, one of our members, Jacek Lindner, won first place in the 17th International Congress here at ICYMS Poznań. We encourage more of the English division to participate!
Lastly, ESRA familiarizes students with recent research articles to promote discussion and academic growth for its members. Our community of motivated students is growing and we anticipate a fruitful year in 2018/2019.
We are always trying to expand opportunities for our members and collaborate internationally. If you have an exciting opportunity available please contact the executive team.
